Rapid Catch up
Rapid Catch-Up
When children go to Year 2, they will continue to receive Phonics teaching.
If your child has not passed the Phonics Screening Check in Year 1, it is likely that they will need to be part of a Rapid Catch-Up group in Year 2. This is an intervention created by Little Wandle to support children with learning whichever phases they need to before they retake the Phonics Screening Check at the end of Year 2. As the children are older now, this intervention moves at a quicker pace than the original phases, and it is designed to allow children to work through Phases 2-5 before they will need to re-sit the check.
Reading sessions will continue in the same format as when your child was in Year 1. Their reading book will match the GPCs and words that their phonics assessment indicates they know confidently.
All staff who deliver any phonics teaching or interventions have received full Little Wandle training.
