To follow on from Little Wandle Phonics, we use Spelling Shed to teach our children to be able to spell accurately. Spelling Shed is a research informed scheme which follows a systematic approach to teach children the relationship between sounds and written symbols. Rather than simply learning lists of words, this scheme teaches children to recognise spelling patterns and highlights notable exceptions. Words are taught in context and linked to other words with similar patterns in order to fully explore their meanings.

The curriculum overview and taught sessions cover all of the national curriculum expectations for spelling for each year group and is used in our school consistently from Year 2. Children take part in 3 taught sessions per week and all children receive a login for Spelling Shed so that they can practice their spellings at home by accessing the websites.
